According to American Heart Association, meditation is the best thing that you can do to reduce the risk of heart diseases. But, it doesn’t mean that you should not maintain a healthy lifestyle, diet and follow a doctor’s advice. Those things are still needed to have a healthy body.
Recent studies confirm that meditation has some health benefit that can help you have a great health. It has a great effect on the brain and as such it would help you maintain a healthy life. The association did some scientific studies and has proven that this is indeed true.
The study includes Samatha; Vipassana (Insight Meditation); Mindful Meditation; Zen Meditation (Zazen); Raja Yoga; Loving-Kindness (Metta); Transcendental Meditation; and Relaxation Response.
However, this does not include taichi and yoga since this practice have been proven effective before. It’s time to leave it and continue with another research. There are other methods that can lessen the occurrence of a heart attack and this has to be proven effective.
The results shows some positive feedback on meditation. It helps to decrease the levels of stress, anxiety and depression, and improved quality of sleep and overall well-being. Aside from what have been said, it can also stop smoking ad lower pressure. But, it is not yet proven if this is true. It is just a speculation and need further study to be proven true.
“Although studies of meditation suggest a possible benefit on cardiovascular risk, there hasn’t been enough research to conclude it has a definite role,” commented Glenn N. Levine, MD, one of the authors of the review, “Since education on how to meditate is widely available and meditation has little if any risk associated with it, interested people may want to use these techniques, in addition to established medical and lifestyle interventions, as a possible way to lower heart disease risk.”
