Joe Weider, a guy who builds an empire because of his bodybuilding habit and a close friend to Arnold Schwarzenegger, died on Saturday in Los Angeles at the age of 93.

His died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and got announced by Charlotte Parker, his longtime publicist.

As a teenager, he was getting bullied by his peers because of his weak frame. One day he thought of making a change and started bodybuilding.  From then on, he become famous as a bodybuilder and built an empire of bodybuilding products.

When he was on his 20’s, he moved on to United States and started building his empire.  He founded the world’s most popular bodybuilding magazines, which include Muscle and Fitness, Flex, Men’s Fitness and, Shape. These magazines were made famous because of the actors and actresses that were featured in the magazines.

Joe Weider, together with his brother Ben founded the International Federation of Body Builders, which holds the Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia contests and other competitions for men and women that has gibbous thighs and sugar-loaf pectorals. As time went by, he was able to form business relationship with established affiliates in over 170 countries.

In 1968, Mr. Weider hired Schwarzenegger, to write articles for his magazine and give him $100 every week for endorsing Weider products. Schwarzenegger won several bodybuilding competitions back then, but was just starting with his career that time.

Schwarzenegger claimed that Weider was always there every step on his life and career.  Weider advises him about training and business ventures.  At one time, Weider even referred to him as a German Shakespearean actor to help him get the leading role in ‘Hercules in New York.’
