I believe that the best way to improve a player’s performance is through running hill sprint.  Hill sprint is believed to provide a number of benefits to the basketball athlete.

The Top 6 Benefits of Sprint Hill Training:

 1. Hill sprints allow the player to improve both strength and speed training.

It is a two in one exercise – lifting weights and sprinting at the same time.  The hill acts as the resistance to your athlete’s sprints, which makes the training more difficult while being shorter in the distance and duration. Hill sprints can bring impressive results in as little as 15 minutes 1 or 2 times per week.

 2. Hill sprints build stamina.

Everyone knows that a basketball players needs endurance.  Hill sprint gives athletes a particular kind of endurance. Cardio is not enough to help athletes perform at their best.  The training imitates the demands of the game. Those needs being – short bouts of intense exertion broken up by periods of lower intensities.

The training will give players a strong heart and lung because it is far difficult than those found in jogging or traditional types of endurance training. The body will be train to reach higher levels and recover fast in between the “sprints.”

Researchers have proven that VO2 Max (the traditional measure of aerobic endurance) is improved as much – or more- by using high intensity interval-type exercise like hill sprinting.

 3. Hill sprints further increase the strength of the ankle – helping to prevent one of the most common injuries in sports – the ankle sprain.

Ankles get the workout it needs because it is a force to push off harder when sprinting up the hill. Because of an inclined plane, more drive is needed than when sprinting on a flat surface. During the game, players have the ability to push off harder.  It lessens the force needed to run fast on the court
