Myth about Working Out during Pregnancy

Most people believe that it is natural for pregnant women to gain weight.  However, it is further from the truth, pregnant women gains weight because of the sedentary lifestyle they are living.  Exercises during pregnancy needed to prevent weight gain and serious illnesses like gestational diabetes and other similar unwanted complications that may occur during pregnancy.

Why should you exercise during pregnancy?

Exercising during pregnancy helps women to stop weight gain and allows them to have a fit body that can carry the baby.  The labor would also be easy, shortened and relatively stress free, and the post delivery recovery would be fast.  Don’t forget that exercise helps the body to be toned for better posture and overall muscle strength and endurance improved.

Working out during pregnancy, helps you to stay away from constipation, bloating and swelling. Additionally, by exercising you feel productive and emotionally stable.

 Do’s and Don’ts of exercise during pregnancy

Extensive studies have proven how safe is walking, swimming, cycling and aerobic exercises for pregnant women. Running, racket sports and strength training should be done in a moderate manner. Sports such as snow skiing, scuba diving and contact sports, for example, ice hockey, soccer and basketball not recommended for pregnant women.

If you are into exercise before you got pregnant, you can still pursue your last workout routine, but it should be light on your body.  Consult a physician to stay away from possible complications.  There are certain conditions of pregnancy when your doctor will advise you not to exercise anymore.  Exercising without consulting a doctor may only result to harming yourself and the baby.

Pilates is a physical fitness program that focuses on the core postural muscles. This exercise is ideal or pregnant mothers, but they should only be done under the supervision of a well-trained instructor.

 When to stop exercising?

When you experience any complications such as vaginal bleeding, dizziness, shortness of breath, chest pain, headache, muscle weakness, pain and swelling of calf, uterine contractions and decreased fetal movements then that would be the time to stop working out. The warning signs are there to warn you not to exercise anymore while pregnant.  Consult your physician when you encounter any of these symptoms.

Don’t forget the pros and cons of exercise during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, don’t think that you are not allowed to exercise. Consult your doctor before starting with an exercise program.   Exercise during pregnancy helps expecting mothers to deliver the baby easier, and recover faster after the pregnancy.
